Sale? Apparently?

Hi lovely readers,

For some reason, Amazon put Out of Darkness on sale (The paperback version at least) for $7.51. That’s cool. So I’m sharing that information with y’all. In case you wanted to buy it. I may, or may not, have gone in and fixed all the chapter headings and the front matter page to look a little cleaner, but nothing important changed.

I’ve been working on little edits all day, mostly changing placeholder names to ones I actually like. (Goodbye: Alex, Brandon, Aaron, Jonathan.) Swapping out all the asterisks for italics now that I’m not jumping between Scrivener and Grammarly.

Um, yep. That’s it, have a good weekend.

Things I’ve Learned.

That’s an awfully vague title, but I didn’t feel like putting “Thinks I’ve Learned Since I Hit Publish on Out of Darkness Three Months Ago.” because that seemed absurd.

Anyway, I’ve realized a couple things over the past few months, that will help (me) a whole heck of a lot when I go to publish Out of Light.  Not the writing part, who even cares about that. (Kidding.)

Here is a small, unordered list of things that I’ve realized the past couple days.

  • You can’t just slap an ebook cover on a paperback. It just doesn’t look as good as you think. You need a spine/back cover.
  • Figure out your measurements. Otherwise, your cover is gonna be wonky.
  • Trust (some of) your instincts. If you’re uneasy about how it looks on screen, you’re probably going to be the same once it prints.
  • Proofread your blurb and bio. Three times. Maybe more.
  • Making other people format your stuff is good. (thanks ax)
  • It’s unhealthy to refresh the sales page 50 times per day.

I had more, but I got distracted. I really need to start writing these away from the main computer.

Till next time!

Note to self: Proofread everything.

PS: I have no updates on Out of Light, just been editing it up. Gonna start putting it up on Scribophile soon for initial fixes. Then I have to find a beta reader again I guess. Oh, also I’ve sold over 60 copies of Out of Darkness.

(Yes, that number is 61.)

Words and Whatnot

Hi there readers 🙂

Throwing a bit of an update your way. Since I’ve decided to write more things than just War of the Sisters, I tweaked the header/name of this site. Now it’s called Words and Whatnot, because I’m super creative with titles. The URL is staying the same because I haven’t changed my name.

Out of Darkness: 49 sales 😮 (I thought I had 52 the other day, but I’d accidentally counted some twice :o. Oops. )

Out of Light: 32k words into the rewrite. Man, I sure missed these characters, it’s nice to ‘see’ them again. I can already see a lot of nonsense I’m going  to cut next draft. I should cut them now, but I’m not quite ready to kill my darlings.

Other Projects: Well, I have three things on back burner that are all started and in various stages of outlines. (From 1k words to about 30k)  Plus another outline for a book in War of the Sisters’ world. But they’re all still cooking so that’s as good an update as y’all get!

Non-Writing: I’m rereading Way of Kings. I like Sanderson. I’m pretty sure I have like three other books I’m supposed to be reading, but I got distracted. (Not surprising.)

Okay, bye! ❤

One Whole Week! (Sort of.)

So, Out of Darkness has been available for sale for a week! (Plus a couple days, just pretend I wrote this on Friday.)

Paperback sales: 25 | eBook sales: 11

36 books! How crazy is that?! One of the charts on KDP also says there were 13 pages read through KU, but I don’t know how that works so I’m just ignoring it.

Not much to update on the Out of Light front.  Edits are going well, though I may change my mind on that once I start letting anyone else read it!  I missed these characters so it’s been fun to “meet” them again.

Okay, I’m done rambling! Have a good rest of your weekend, see ya next time!
